Background:

Aster Volunteers, the corporate social responsibility arm of Aster DM Healthcare, has wrapped up the fifth edition of its Heart2Heart Cares initiative by pledging free pediatric heart surgeries for at least 50 underprivileged children. With this latest commitment, the organisation has now sponsored a total of 214 life-saving surgeries over four years.

The campaign ended with a community walk on November 2, drawing more than 2,500 participants. It concluded a month-long global fitness drive held from September 29 to October 28, which saw nearly 32,000 people join from across the GCC and India. Participants took part in daily fitness goals, such as walking 10,000 steps a day, to raise awareness for children with congenital heart disease.

Senior representatives from Aster DM Healthcare and consular officials attended the closing event, where the latest pledge was announced. The initiative aimed to promote healthy living while also supporting children in need of heart care.

At the event, Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, said that about one in every 100 newborns worldwide is affected by congenital heart disease, according to the World Health Organization. He emphasized that many children in low- and middle-income countries still lack access to timely and affordable treatment.

Participants who demonstrated outstanding activity levels throughout the campaign were honoured during the closing ceremony. Aster Volunteers confirmed it will continue to fund and support heart surgeries for children in need through its foundation and hospital network.

The Heart2Heart Cares initiative shows how community efforts can make a real difference, turning every step taken into hope for a child’s healthy heart.
