Background 

Uzbekistan and South Korea have agreed to expand cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, according to the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry. The discussion covered research infrastructure, clinical studies and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine. 

Agency Director Abdulla Azizov met with a South Korean delegation that included Korea Foundation for International Healthcare Director Regina Han, Economic Development Cooperation Fund Director Sangjin Kang, and Research Institute of Sustainable Technology Innovation and Consulting Director Usun Lee, along with other representatives from their organizations. 

Research infrastructure development emerged as a key topic during the meeting. Both sides also discussed expanding clinical and preclinical research and moving forward with the Smart Biocluster project. Training skilled specialists and introducing digital technologies and AI-based healthcare solutions received particular focus.

The Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry oversees pharmaceutical market development in Uzbekistan, including licensing, product tracking systems and specialist training. It also coordinates the Tashkent Pharma Park Innovative Scientific and Production Pharmaceutical Cluster and works to connect local enterprises with foreign pharmaceutical companies.
